Zürich: AG Hallenstadion stands for sustainability

As the first company in Switzerland, the Hallenstadion Zürich has been certified as a sustainable company and venue with the internationally recognized label “Green Globe”. The AG Hallenstadion sets new standards in the events industry with this partner-ship and represents an ecological and socially sustainable development.

In the constantly changing economic and ecological environment, it is increasingly important that companies take responsibility for the consequences of their actions and focus on sustainable economic development. The AG Hallenstadion actively takes responsibility and has become the first venue in Switzerland to be certified by the internationally recognized certification organization Green Globe in terms of sustainability. Green Globe represents the best standards for sustainability in the tourism and event industry and offers services in the areas of certification, training and marketing in 83 countries.

To achieve the certification a target catalogue with more than 320 objectives had to be dealt with and at least 51% of the objectives had to be met. The AG Hallenstadion reached the initial certification with the outstanding result of 84%, showing that the stadium is operated at a high level of sustainability and, for example, relied on renewable energy sources from the start. Compliance with these requirements was verified on site by three independent auditors. To guarantee long-term development, the indoor stadium has committed to an annual increase, which will be checked by Green Globe.
The attainment of the certificate is only the tip of the iceberg: a conscious company policy, which is followed by all employees and includes social responsibility and the responsible use of scarce resources, is the basis of everything. Another aspect concerns the responsibility of the organizers in the Hallenstadion, who receive new tools to run their events even more sustainably. As of now, it is for example possible to hold any event at the Hallenstadion in a CO2-neutral manner or to further increase the share of solar power in the electricity mix.

Felix Frei, Director at AG Hallenstadion comments: “We are very proud to be the first company to have ever obtained a Green Globe certification in Switzerland and once again play a leading role in the Swiss events industry. Now we hope that the first event managers will soon their occasion in a CO2-neutral manner and also make their contribution to future generations”.
