In September 2010, the Max-Schmeling-Halle was honoured as the first multi-function hall of the Federal Capital, in collaboration with the EVVC, to by receiving the globally known and recognized Green Globe certification for sustainability. Recently, the proceedings for recertification of the eco-label took place.
Compared with the previous year, the requirements were increased significantly worldwide. Nevertheless, the Max-Schmeling-Halle was able to meet 222 of 258 required criteria and achieved an excellent rate of 86 percent - and thus deservedly earned recertification. The requirements range from the conservation as well as the sustainable and controlled use of existing resources to social issues such as employee safety. Other topics include communication and customer satisfaction.
A key success factor at Green Globe is the saving or the preservation of resources. "By renewing the facility control systems and by installing motion detectors in the Max-Schmeling-Halle we can now realize sustainable savings while at the same time reducing costs", says Anette Weller, director of operations at the Velomax Berlin Hallenbetriebs GmbH. "Through regular meetings of our 'Green Team' - a group formed by employees of the Max-Schmeling-Halle – we were able to develop and promote successful and forward-looking policies and actions on sustainability and environmental protection in the areas of facility management, marketing, scheduling, events , sales, quality management etc."
The website of the Arena was recently expanded to include "Green Entertainment". Here, the integration of the economic, social and environmental sustainability in the hall operator's management systems is explained in detail to the interested public. In addition, there is information available on how to realize "Green Events" at the Max-Schmeling-Halle.
