Green Meetings & Events Conference: Mainz is the winner

The Congress Centrum Mainz (CCM) is the host of the “Green Meetings & Events Conference” from 1st to 2nd March 2011. The organizers of the conference are the GCB German Convention Bureau e.V. and the European Association of Event Centres e.V. (EVVC). The CCM convinced the advisory board with its strong commitment to sustainability and therefore asserted itself against all other national and international applications filed by members of the GCB and the EVVC.

Reasons for the choice are the fact that the Congress Centrum is certified with the EVVC Green Globe label and that the partners in the city, especially the surrounding conferencing hotels are already in the certification process. In addition, the CCM submitted the “tegut banquet” catering concept that is one of the first event-caterers that includes organic & Naturland certified products.

Matthias Schultze, Managing Director of GCB, said: “Mainz has delivered the best overall approach and convinced us in particular through the involvement of strong, globally active economic partners in the field of renewable energies. Another advantage is the planned cooperation with the regional government institutions which gives the congress political anchorage. Further favourable points for Mainz are the central location and excellent rail connections - good conditions for conference participants to be able to reach the conference in an environmentally-friendly way.”

Dr. Ursula Paschke, Vice President of the EVVC, added: “Planning and implementation of the Green Meetings & Events Conference should set an example for other events. Therefore, it was important to the advisory board that the event demonstrated the commitment to sustainability and could also prove this through a certification.”
