With investments of around 430 million Swiss francs (230 million Euros) the exhibition grounds in Basel will experienced a prominent modernization in the coming years: Hall 1 will be extended toward the exhibition fairground, building 3 adjacent to the parking garage will be refurbished and the two new building complexes will be combined with a two-story superstructure over the exhibition fairground.

The final building permit for the major building project “Messenzentrum Basel” has been obtained at the beginning of March 2010. This allows the redevelopment of the fairgrounds, which the Basel architects Herzog & de Meuron developed on behalf of the MCH Group, to be realized as planned. The initial preparation work will already begin in the summer of 2010.
The new complex is to be taken into operation for the BASELWORLD 2013.
