Leipzig convinces as an international congress location: CCL has the most successful year in its history

The Congress Center Leipzig (CCL) ended its fiscal year 2011 with the best result of its 15-year history. The turnover will be around 5.3 million Euros (2010: 4.3 million). In total, 77 congresses by external organizers took place in the CCL, which were visited by 78,000 visitors. In addition, the Leipzig fairs were accompanied by 16 specialized programs at the CCL, which counted 18,000 participants.

“For us, the ICCA Congress was a great opportunity”, says André Kaldenhoff, divisional manager of congresses at the Leipzig Messe. “Our objective was to put Leipzig on the international map of the convention industry. And we succeeded”. In Leipzig the ICCA Congress not only achieved a record attendance of over 1,000 participants. The quality of the Congress, the CCL and the city of Leipzig were also very positively evaluated by the international guests, who to a large extent weren’t familiar with the city of Leipzig.

In Leipzig, the ICCA Congress also set new standards in the event execution. Criteria of so-called green meetings were implemented sustainably. The Green-traffic concept, which was conceived by apprentices of the Leipziger transport services and the Leipzig Messe garnered great respect. They came up with an ingenious system, which ensured that all conference participants were able to use the tram for the route between the conference hotel and conference centre. The simple, smooth running impressed throughout; the Leipzig model is now presented to other industry conferences as a best practice example.
