The Congress Center Mainz (CCM) takes a further step towards a green future: Introducing the new meetings package “greenplus”, the Green Globe- and German Oekoprofit-certified company now enables their clients to run completely CO2-free conferences. By booking the “greenplus” package, clients benefit from numerous advantages and can additionally take responsibility for the environment.
The package is built on a modular basis. It comprises train tickets from Deutsche Bahn AG, the use of an electric vehicle as well as congress cards for public transport for the duration of the conference. Furthermore, it offers the possibility to purchase solar savings certificates, the supply of green electricity and to serve customers with sustainable catering. Clients will also receive guidelines on green meetings providing useful suggestions beyond the ongoing event.
Besides a long-term cooperation with Deutsche Bahn AG for CO2-neutral travelling, CCM now offers another special highlight: Clients will be able to use a Mercedes smart car with an electric power unit for the time of their event. The car is branded in the “greenplus” design but can additionally be adapted to the client’s corporate or event branding.
For transportation within the city of Mainz, conference attendees may also use a so-called congress card which entitles the holder to use public transport free of charge. Furthermore, free entry to selected museums and a guided city tour are included.
Since the beginning of 2011, CCM solely obtains green electricity from renewable, non-fossil energy sources such as wind, water and solar power. In July 2011, CCM also implemented its own photovoltaic system on the roof of the Rheingoldhalle, its main conference venue. The system produces a total amount of 123,000 kilowatt hours electricity per year, this corresponds approximately to the annual consumption of 30 households. Moreover, about 84 tons carbon dioxide will be saved this way. In cooperation with the Mainzer Volksbank, a local bank, CCM gives their clients the unique chance of purchasing solar savings bonds in order to lower their carbon footprint even more.
A sustainable catering offer with regional, certified produces as well as guidelines for congress organisers complete the package.
August Moderer, General Manager of CCM explains: “We would like to involve our clients in the process of sustainability and provide individual advice. With the “greenplus” package, we offer the opportunity to run a conference considering ecological, economical and social aspects.”
