Congress Park Hanau: Bio-catering field trials

Many steps need to be taken on the way to becoming a sustainable location, which are often described with the slogan “Green Meetings”. With one of its five catering partners the Congress Park Hanau has now made a further step in this direction and taken on the topic Bio-catering. A real challenge, especially if the aspiration is to use only organic products or biological production.

In these parts, eco-farming has a very positive image and is one of the major trends in our society. For many people, a healthy diet plays a significant role, and accordingly, awareness for bio-quality has developed when it comes to eating. But what are organizers of congresses, conferences and events doing about the trend toward healthy eating? “Demand is still muted”, says Sven Arends, director of events and property management in the CPH.

After all, the offer has its price. There are several good reasons why organic products are more expensive than conventionally produced products. The fact is that they are almost always more expensive and depending on the size of the catering and the scale of the purchases it can be by up to 50 percent. In times of increased cost consciousness and shrinking budgets it is clear what the organizers mainly decide. But Sven Arends is confident that the trend for sustainable conferencing will ultimately prevail in all areas: “We cannot commit anyone to sustainability, but we know from many inquiries and discussions with our customers that this issue is not just a flash in the pan. The awareness for sustainable business will spread further and eventually also reach the catering sector.”
