European Association of Event Centres (EVVC)

The EVVC represents about 700 event centres of all kinds and sizes in Germany and Europe.
Event organisers and supply companies supplement the association’s broad range, thus making the EVVC the most versatile communications network within the sector.

Anlässlich der Green Globe-Verleihung wird es auch vor dem Messe und Congress Centrum Halle Münsterland ein Stück grüner: Matthias Peck vom NRW-Umweltministerium, Aufsichtsratsvorsitzende Helga Welker, Oberbürgermeister Markus Lewe, Green Globe-Auditor Dr. Peter Zimmer und Geschäftsführerin Dr. Ursula Paschke (v.l.) pflanzten eine Silberlinde.

Messe und Congress Centrum Halle Münsterland receives Green Globe certification

Green event centre meets the strict criteria

Sustainable management protects the environment, climate and resources and is becoming an increasingly important competitive factor. This also applies to the Messe und Congress Centrum Halle Münsterland. As the first company in Münster, the event centre received the Green Globe certificate on 1st September and is one of the precursors in Germany.

The approach of Green Globe, with its 125 criteria, also includes questions about the environmental commitment of the employees in the workplace. Points were scored for the three specially trained energy managers who sensitize their colleagues for the economical use of resources. Training courses were also organized with the municipal Office for Green Spaces and Environmental Protection. “The training of the employees in the environmental field was well received,” praised Matthias Peck of the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Environment. And head mayor Markus Lewe sees the credibility of the entire city of Münster supported by the certification. “It fits into the overall development of the city of Münster, which has always proven that ecology and economics fit together,” he said.

The Messe und Congress Centrum Halle Münsterland hasn’t only been a “green” convention centre since Green Globe. In 2009, a very environmentally friendly air conditioning system, which uses fire extinguishing water to cool the concert audiences and visitors, was put into operation. And this year 1,904 light bulbs in the Great Hall were replaced with energy saving lamps. In the course of their two to three year lifespan these modern lamps will save 22,464 kilograms of carbon dioxide. Small measures can have a surprising effect: aerators, installed in all taps, reduce the consumption of 8 to 10 litres to just 1.7 litres per minute.
