In September 2005, the City Council of the City of Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance unanimously gave a “green light” for extensive reconstruction, renovation and modernization projects with a total investment sum of almost 8 million Euros.
These measures, which quite incidentally also secured the livelihoods of the dedicated staff, were made up of the reconstruction and installation of additional storage and staff rooms as well as a glass elevator for the handicapped in the small foyer that were mainly carried out during the summer breaks from 2008-2011. Other important measures include the installation of an extensive fibre optic network, the complete renovation of the sound technology in the halls and on the big stage, the renewal of the stage management console, the renewal of the air conditioning system in the conference rooms as well as a complete renovation of the light dimming system. The largest construction phase, which lasted four and a half months, has recently been completed. The stage area was enlarged, a modern revolving stage was installed and the orchestra pit was enlarged and improved making it possible to perform grand opera shows using up to 85 musicians. In addition, the entire stage technology, lighting equipment and the complete stage flooring were renewed. This stage modernization alone required an investment of 3.5 million Euros to complete. Hall Manager Dietmar Philipp is happy that this need for modernization was viewed as an investment in the future and fully supported by the council at the time.
