The jury placed the nominations for 2011 under the brief motto “old and beautiful” and chose halls and with flair and history that maintaining themselves very successfully against the modern entertainment palaces. The historic domed hall that is part of the Hannover Congress Centrum didn’t only score due to its high profile artists during 2010 - among others Max Raabe, David Garrett, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Jamie Cullum and Rolando Villazon were guests - but also due to successful building investments. The lobby has been renovated and the wall lights were redesigned. In March, the HCC was also rewarded for his efforts in environmental protection and certified with the Green Globe standard. In 2011, the energy consumption will be up to twenty percent lower, compared with 2008, the residual waste will be reduced by more than 40 percent. The LEA jury distinguishes the operator of a venue, that doesn’t rest on its laurels of the past and prepares a historic venue for future challenges.
HCC Director Joachim König: “This is obviously a great honour and a great endorsement of our performance in the Hannover Congress Centrum. In 2014, the Dome Hall, with its adjoining rooms that make up the historical part of the Hannover Congress Centrum, celebrates its 100th birthday. In this respect the prize has been given to us at exactly the right time. A whole series of measures to put our glorious, historic rooms in the best light, are already on the way. The financial possibilities for further measures until 2014 are available. An award such as the LEA is, during such an important phase, in addition to the confirmation, also an incentive and a challenge to ensure the sustainability for the next 100 years. This also requires a motivated and enthusiastic team. Halls and arenas live through the people who perform during their events, who visit the events and ensure that operators and visitors feel at home. For this reason, I would like to say a very special thank you to the team of the HCC. The LEA 2011 is a team prize and the team has won it”.
