Munich: Topping out ceremony for the new Small Olympic Hall

It is barely visible from the outside but the Olympic Park now has a new attraction. In the coming summer a new venue will be opening up at the foot of the Olympic Tower, between the Olympic Hall and Olympic swimming pool: the Small Olympic Hall. The invited guests were already able to see the harmonious blend of architecture at the topping out ceremony in October. The hall is underground, so as not to affect the entire ensemble of the listed Olympia Park. But, following basic architectural ideas, transparency and natural light determine the overall general impression.

The building owner of the small Olympic Hall is, in accordance with the cooperation agreement with the Olympiapark München GmbH (OMG), the Stadtwerke München (SWM). A multi-purpose venue for conferencing, sports events and pop concerts is being created in a central location. Dr. Florian Bieberbach, Commercial CEO of the SWM: “The term ‘small’, given the available space, is a bit of an understatement. The hall has a seating capacity for 500 to 4,000 visitors. This size gives the OMG new possibilities for new event concepts. With the new building and the extensive modernization efforts that have taken place in the Great Olympic Hall, the event offer in Munich will be significantly expanded and the ambience and service opportunities in the halls will be improved. The investment costs for the Small Olympic Hall are approximately 30 million Euros. They are refinanced by lease payments made by the OMG. The customers of the SWM will not be burdened in any way by this co-operation.”
