Sudden cardiac death is still the leading cause of death in Germany. The time window for effective help is very short; a lifesaver in this situation is laymen’s resuscitation using semi-automatic defibrillators.
These have now been installed in all KölnKongress conference venues and staff on site has been trained in their usage. “If in 10 years the life of a single visitor can be saved because of the installation the (financial) effort has been worthwhile,” said Bernhard Conin, managing director of KölnKongress.
KölnKongress, Cologne's largest provider of event locations, manages more than 2,000 events with more than one million visitors on its premises each year.
Defibrillators are devices that are capable of recognizing threatening heart rhythm disturbances, to stop fast heart rhythm disturbances by means of a short electrical impulse and, through guided vocal instructions, even make usage possible for untrained laymen to ensure effective recovery.
