The MESSE DRESDEN GmbH closes its fiscal year 2011 successfully and will continue its growth path in 2012. The success is based on new and proven event concepts with exterior and own productions, positive balance sheet figures, a fully booked event calendar and the converted HALLE 1.
The event year 2011 was successful for the municipal GmbH. While the MESSE DRESDEN rented out its premises on 357 days during 2010, it was already 431 days in 2011 from a statistical point of view. The MESSE DRESDEN was the venue of 142 events during 2011 (previous year: 108), of which seven were own exhibitions. In percentage terms the number of events was increased by 31%. A total of 595,000 people visited the fairground (previous year: 553,000), which corresponds to an increase of 8%.
With 5.2 million Euros, the MESSE DRESDEN increased its turnover by 20% compared to last year (4.3 million Euros). As a result of infrastructural investments in the exhibition fairground and the associated credit burden the result in 2011 will still show a planned deficit of 1.3 million Euros.
The conversion of HALLE 1 was realized during event-free days. As these were fortunately rare, the construction work was not accomplished until currently. Dresden's largest multi-purpose hall has been optically and technically upgraded since August 2010. These included acoustic measures, such as the lining of the walls with acoustic-compatible materials, the installation of a ceiling that works both as a luminous ceiling as well as an acoustic ceiling and all associated technical installations (ventilation, sprinkler system, lighting).
In addition, equipment was added and several different playable galleries were purchased. During standing concerts, up to 12,000 spectators can now be admitted and up to 5,500 seats are available to fans of popular music. Overall, the MESSE DRESDEN, together with the City of Dresden, invested 3.1 million Euros in order to improve the conditions for popular music.
The foyer of HALLE 1 was partly modified so that a portion of the cloak rooms can now be found in the basement - with its historic roots – that is located underneath. Also, there are now additional toilet facilities available there.
