The high capacity utilization in the conference area provides for a positive assessment of the Musik- und Kongresshalle Lübeck (MuK) in its 2009 fiscal year. Despite the difficult economic situation in 2009 the MuK was nearly able to maintain the previous year’s high level with around 300 events. This was also reflected in good attendance figures. During 2009, some 180,000 visitors came to the MuK. 45,000 of them took part in conferences. This means an increase of 11 percent compared to the previous year.
With a turnover of around € 4 million, and expenditures of approximately € 4.5 million, the MuK could again reduce the subsidy requirements in 2009. With € 520,000 of requirements in 2009 the MuK received € 230,000 less in subsidies than in 2007. Therefore, the target figure of the hanseatic city was fully met again.
The step-by-step approach has paid off once again - Ilona Jarabek justified the positive development of the MuK. In 2008 the MuK formulated a new mission statement, which focuses on the “culture of sustainability in terms of social responsibility for all corporate action.” The aim of the reorientation is to combine environmental, social and economic goals. “Even small technical measures and the comprehensive training and raising awareness of employees in the past year have led to energy savings of over 10 percent. By investing in modern air conditioning technology and the progressive upgrading of our technical infrastructure, we will in future be able to save up to 20 percent in electricity and heating costs,” said Ilona Jarabek. The primary goals are saving costs and reducing CO2 emissions of MuK by up to 25 percent.
