City Council endorses new development of the Wiesbaden Rhein-Main-Hallen

In its last meeting the Wiesbaden City Council voted for a new building of the Rhein-Main-Hallen, which are expected to be put into operation no earlier than 2016. The technical and structural condition of the Rhine-Main-Hallen would make at least a basic technical renovation at a cost of around € 50 million necessary: This is the result of studies that were carried out by Albert Speer and Partners on behalf of TriWiCon. With its approval for a new building of the congress centre, which is important for Wiesbaden and for further economic reasons, the magistrate took into account the increasing economic difficulties of the Rhine-Main-Hallen GmbH in an increasingly competitive market. To sufficiently compensate the outflow of large fairs the Rhein-Main-Hallen need clarity about their future,” said Bendel.

After the symposium, which will lead to an informed decision, a provisional timetable will provide for the issues of funding, the site and the feasibility in the years 2010 / 2011 and the planning phase for the year 2012. Two and a half years are estimated for the construction of the new convention centre (planned start of construction is the end of 2013). During this period the event business will continue operations in the old Rhein-Main-Hallen.
