The decision made by the Council of the City of Osnabrück in summer 2011 to renovate the OsnabrückHalle, was now confirmed in December 2011. A new building, consisting of an arena and connected event centre was discarded.

The city council and the OsnabrückHalle will now verify whether the ambitious timetable can be met with respect to the precise planning and budgeting: The schedule for the renovation is realistic but also ambitious.
The first major redevelopment section, which features a new main entrance consisting of a glass portal and arrival/departure area will be realised from March until August 2013. The inside will feature a spacious and modern central cloakroom and toilet facilities, while the large Europa hall will be completely renovated and the entire house and event technology will be modernized to meet the most modern standards. This planning will also take, among other things, the event calendar of the OsnabrückHalle into consideration, so as to be able to be back on the market during the attractive months in the autumn and winter 2013/14.

If the architectural agencies who are involved in the tender come to the conclusion that the two month delay in the tender has an impact on the redevelopment period or the cost, then refurbishment may have to be moved back by a year to 2014 to take the event calendar of the OsnabrückHalle into account.
