Environmental Minister DI Niki Berlakovich awarded the ecolabel “Green Meetings” to the Congress Saalfelden at the Austrian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water at the end of November.
After a great emphasis had already been placed on energy efficiency during the construction of the new convention centre by considering thermal measures and the installing an air conditioner running on groundwater, the chosen path has now been continued with the connection to the biomass heating network. So it goes without saying that the house also deals responsibly with the environment and natural resources during its daily operation.
As a licensee of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water, the Congress Saalfelden is entitled to certify its customer events on the basis of a comprehensive set of criteria in terms of sustainability, environmental and resource conservation and to award the ecolabel.
This way, the aim is to remind conference organizers of their duty to take ecological responsibility.
This ecolabel is unique in Europe, due to its comprehensive regulations and is regarded as a quality seal in the area of ecologic conferencing. In addition to the Congress Saalfelden, so far only four other venues have been certified: the Kongress- und Festspielhaus Bregenz, the Congress Innsbruck, the Congress Centrum Alpbach and Salzburg Congress. They collectively see this as an international competitive advantage.
