More than 370,000 visitors came to the 91 entertainment events and other concerts in 2010. “There haven’t been such high figures for a number of years”, said Jochen Meschke, managing director of the Veranstaltungszentrum Westfalenhallen GmbH. All in all, 807,460 visitors came to the Veranstaltungszentrum Westfalenhallen last year. “Even in this respect we can look back on a successful year”. Almost half of all visitors are a result of the large entertainment sector.
The Supervisory Board of the Westfallenhallen Dortmund GmbH approved the expansion of the cycling track in the Westfalenhalle 1 in December. Cycling events will not be held there in the foreseeable future. If necessary, a mobile velodrome could be installed, as in other halls.
The expansion of the existing track is beneficiary to almost all other events. The capacity of the Westfalenhalle 1 will rise to over 550 (seated) and 1,200 seats (standing). The maximum capacity is then at least 15,200 visitors.
In addition, the assembly and disassembly is facilitated, as the obstruction caused by the race track and its hydraulic doors is eliminated. The reconstruction work will take place in two steps, in the summer of 2011 and 2012. “The overall project is still subject to planning permission, said Meschke. The effects of the measures promise a further strengthening of the Great Westfallenhalle in the tough competition with other event venues.
