Westfalenhallen: One of the most active apprenticeship companies in Dortmund - Sabine Loos: “good tradition to continue”

The group of companies Westfalenhallen Dortmund remains to be one of the most active apprenticeship companies in Dortmund in 2011. A total of 21 young people will begin their training at the Westfalenhallen at the beginning of the new apprenticeship year. In the same manner as other years, the commitment of the Westfalenhallen Dortmund GmbH once again surpasses its own needs for new workers.

Sabine Loos, who is the new Chief Executive of the Westfalenhallen Dortmund GmbH since the 1st August: “I am very pleased that, through our apprenticeships, our company gives young people a perspective, and I will continue this good tradition in the future”.

The training rate of the Westfalenhallen is approximately 15 percent and is also extremely high in the nationwide comparison. In other places, the average apprenticeship rate in German companies is approximately 6 to 7 percent.

In 2011, the group of companies Westfalenhallen welcomes new apprentices in the trades

- Bürokaufmann/-frau (office clerk),

- Informatikkaufmann/-frau, (Computer science businessman)

- Fachinformatiker für Systemintegration (IT specialist for system integration)

- Veranstaltungskaufmann/-frau, (Event manager)

- Fachkräfte für Veranstaltungstechnik, Expert for event technology)

- Hotelfachmann/-frau, (Hotel management)

- Fachmann/-frau für Systemgastronomie, (Professional for the catering trade)

- Restaurantfachmann/-frau, (Restaurant manager)

- Koch/Köchin. (Cooking chef)

In search of qualified apprentices in the field of gastronomy, the Westfalenhallen also chose to go in new directions. A partnership with the Robert-Koch-Realschule, the Gesamtschule Gartenstadt and the Hauptschule Innenstadt made school students curious about careers as cooking chefs and restaurant managers. First, the young people received an introduction of the company; afterwards students participated in a total of four project days and got to know the job on site. Then they were again invited, together with their parents and teachers to get to know the Westfalenhallen premises and the company. In addition, the Westfallenhallen are always involved in the Dortmund “Nacht der Ausbildung (Night of the apprenticeship)”.
