The Messe Westfallenhallen Dortmund GmbH has recorded a significant sales and earnings growth in 2011 compared to the previous year. Over the past year the company achieved a turnover of 14.7 million Euros and a profit of 1.6 million Euros. “This means we have increased our earnings by about 1 million Euros compared to the previous year”, says Sabine Loos. The Messe Westfallenhallen Dortmund continues to be one of the few fair venues in Germany to record in the black and who can support themselves without the financial support of the public sector.
The operating result EBITDA2 for 2011 is 3.6 million Euros. This figure highlights the core business of the Dortmund fair, adjusted for example, from interest or tax effects. The EBITDA has also increased significantly compared to 2010. The revenue for 2011 has also improved by 14 percent over the previous year.
The reasons for the positive development of sales and earnings are due to an internal restructuring in the supervision of the Messen3 on the one hand, but on the other hand also due to the fact that in 2011 the top-selling trade fair ELEKTROTECHNIK also made its scheduled stop in Dortmund. The occupied exhibitor booth area for all conducted own shows across 2011 was almost 30 percent higher than last year and caused a corresponding revenue.
For 2012, the Messe is preparing to introduce a modern ticketing system, consisting of a new pre-sale, cash register and admission system. Visitors can register online. Tickets can be sent electronically and then printed at home or can even be sent completely paperless to a mobile phone. Shipping and billing of exhibitors’ vouchers will also become much simpler for the trade fair company. Instead of paper vouchers, only digital codes will be issued and managed. The associated process optimization will free up manpower for other tasks in the company.
