Kurhaus Wiesbaden - ein Mitglied der TriWiCon

Wiesbaden: New network meets the highest standards - Optimal networking of locations

The locations of the county capital of Hessen are just as extraordinary as they are unique - and yet they have one thing in common: An IT technology that meets the highest demands of media technology, enables wireless Internet access to visitors while at the same time securing stability. With the establishment of the fair, convention and tourism holding TriWiCon, under whose roof the Rhein-Main-Hallen Wiesbaden GmbH, the Kurhaus Wiesbaden GmbH and the Wiesbaden Marketing GmbH, who manages all marketing activities of its partners, are combined a new network that connects the sites with each other and offers the greatest possible service in communication and knowledge transfer to trade fair and congress participants alike, has been developed. To achieve this ambitious goal TriWiCon has decided on partnering with HP ProCurve, who has been a reliable partner of the Rhein-Main-Hallen for more than a decade. In addition to a lifetime hardware warranty by the manufacturer it was the stability of the new ring network, that connects the sites with a bandwidth of ten GBits, that led to the decision, made together with the IT Systems house Urano Informationssysteme GmbH, in favor of HP ProCurve.

Networks securely separated from each other

Under the direction of the departments of information technology in the Rhein-Main-Hallen and the Kurhaus Wiesbaden a network that makes Wiesbaden one of the most modern venues of Hessen was realized in just three months. It ensures the networking of conference participants at the Rhein-Main-Hallen and the Kurhaus Wiesbaden as well as the internal procedures of partners in 4 locations. To ensure the smooth operation the network was separated into 30 pre-configured LANs (VLANs) which allow the event area safely separated network areas, such as building control systems, real-time transmission of digital audio (CobraNet), video surveillance or VoIP telephony. 70 radio ports offer secure wireless access at 54Mbit on the entire premises of the Rhine-Main-Hallen, as well as in the Kurhaus, and this access, which allows more than 1000 visitors access to the Internet, to their own corporate network and to secure areas of the TriWiCon intranet, is separated from the rest of the network by an individual VLAN. To access the TriWiCon intranet visitors will receive a voucher that contains temporary password and login data. This also allows exhibitors and organizers access to their company's own server and lets them utilize access control or lead management with barcode scanners.
