Happy Birthday Wormser! Venue has been (re-) opened for a year / operator draws positive conclusion

No question, currently the Wormser is a success story: cultural events, diverse socio-cultural projects and corporate events enrich the (socio-) cultural and economic life of the region. In figures: around 65,800 visitors came to 269 events in 2011.

“The second pillar of the Wormser, in addition to the self-organized cultural events, is the socio-cultural utilization by local clubs”, said head mayor Michael Kissel and is pleased that the Worms clubs have also accepted the new venue: carnival sessions, presentations of the archaeological society, the sports ball of City Sports Association or exhibitions by local artists now enrich the social and cultural life of the city. The clubs still have to pay the same net room rent as companies, but can get back some of the money via a funding pool of the cultural coordination that is located in the offices of the head mayor. “This possibility has also been used extensively”, says Volker Gallé, cultural coordinator, who is responsible for the allocation of funds at the head mayor’s office. Since the funds are limited in 2012, it is worthwhile for local clubs to try to get funds as early as possible.

204 conferences and corporate events took place in the Wormser conference centre during the last eleven months. These were held by many local and regional companies as well as by national companies and organizations that use the centrally located venue on a regular basis now. Even though there is no marketing focus on this topic yet, it was already possible to win some supra-regional clients.

Winning the “location Awards” prize in the very first year of operation shows the good quality on offer. The jury awarded the Wormser the award of best conferencing and convention location in Germany, ahead of distinguished competitors such as the Ullstein-Halle in Berlin and the Allianz Arena in Munich who came second and third.
