Sennheiser on site at the first testing of the new mobile standard LTE at CeBIT

The new mobile standard LTE was one of the dominant topics at this year's CeBIT computer trade fair. On the initiative of Vodafone a trail run with the new technology was conducted during the fair. Sennheiser sales and service was on site to examine the concrete impact on the operation of wireless microphones.

The test took place on the southern part of the open terrain of the Hannover Messe and was approved by the Federal Network Agency in the normally used frequency bands 791-801 MHz and 832-842 MHz.

In coordination with the Messe AG, the Federal Network Agency and Vodafone, Sennheiser conducted extensive readings and field tests. It was found, as expected, that the operation of wireless microphones in the bands used by the LTE frequency is not possible. Ramifications outside the space occupied by the LTE frequency bands could not be determined. Here, wireless microphones could operate without inter-ference.

To ensure the smooth operation of all wireless microphones at the CeBIT, exhibitors and distributors were informed accordingly in advance. At the same time Sennheiser reserved replacement broadcasting lines. Technical support by Sennheiser experts could be requested via a telephone hotline.

In this way, according to previous information, significant interference could be prevented during the fair. However, as more tests are planned throughout the country and the mobile industry is still speaking of a commercial launch of LTE in 2010, interferences in the operation of wireless microphones must be expected in the affected regions.
