“Green Meetings” are not only an effective tool in the fight against climate change, but also a serious competitive factor. In order to further establish the issue in the congress, meeting and events industry and to give its members specific recommendations the GCB German Convention Bureau e.V., the European Association of Event Centres (EVVC) and the Association of German Event Organizers e.V. (VDVO) have agreed a partnership with the prestigious certifiers for sustainability Green Globe Certification (GGC).
 
The focus of the agreement is a globally accepted Internet-based certification system from Green Globe, which assesses the environmental, social and economic development of a company according to 248 science-based criteria. About half of these criteria can also be applied to the event industry: conference, convention and event providers that meet at least 51 percent thereof, and receive confirmation of this result from an independent auditor can receive the Green Globe certification. Under the new agreement, the GCB, EVVC and VDVO have agreed to offer the certification system as an element of a comprehensive sustainability strategy to their members. In return, Green Globe will assist with help and advice - for example when it comes to sustainability tips, training for the correct collection of key data or effective sustainability communications.
