Event organisers and supply companies supplement the association’s broad range, thus making the EVVC the most versatile communications network within the sector.

Congress and meeting industry launches new sustainability initiative

The GCB German Convention Bureau will receive funding from the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) for the development and mediation of recommendations for sustainable event management, with particular emphasis on sustainability communication and the qualification of sustainability consultants. The realisation of the project takes place in collaboration with the co-applicant EVVC European Association of Event Centres e.V.

As part of the new project a total of 500 consultants will be trained to pass on their extensive knowledge of sustainability topics in their companies. The aim is to make it easier for event planners to organize sustainable events in Germany in future and for them to serve as a global model. This way, the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions during events will be achieved and the demand for green meetings will be increased.

DBU Secretary General Dr.-Ing. E.h. Fritz Brickwedde explains why the German Federal Environmental Foundation has chosen to promote the GCB project “Development and mediation of recommendations for sustainable event management” for the next two years: “The event sector has a very high environmental relevance. The arrival and departure of participants, the air-conditioning, lighting and catering, as well as the provided information material – largte energy and material flows are connected with the conferencing business. We hope that this innovative project will lead to a significant environmental relief. It is also commendable that medium and municipal operators of event venues with her comparatively modest financial budget are also given special consideration”.
